Nathan Friedman (S.M.Arch.S. ’15) has received the 2022 Architectural League Prize. His practice Departamento del Distrito, cofounded with Francisco Quiñones (GSD M.Arch.II ‘14) in Mexico City, is one of six winners from North America to receive the award this year.
The annual Architectural League Prize Competition was established in 1981 to recognize visionary work by young practitioners. This year’s theme “grounding” asked designers to frame their practices vis-à-vis the grounds upon which they operate—both physically and ideologically. The jury was led by Chris T. Cornelius, Carla Juaçaba, Lola Sheppard and Mabel O. Wilson, with a supporting designers committee that included Luis Beltrán del Río García, Tei Carpenter, and Gabriel Cuéllar.
Prize winners will present their work through lectures, digital media, interviews, and an exhibition in June 2022.
