On the evening of January 18, 2020, alum José Rivera SMACT ’17 hosted a sound performance and album release at Industry Lab in Cambridge, MA. Titled Electric Streams of Wind, the audio art project (conceived during his MIT studies) captured audio recordings from the Green Building’s rooftop weather station and transmitted them to the 1st floor loggia in real-time.
The event opened with a performance by Rahul Nair. Attendees listened from couches while enjoying pizza and refreshments provided by MITArchA. José’s Electric Streams of Wind came next, with visuals by from Thomas Sanchez Lengeling, a researcher at MIT’s Media Lab. Hand-made albums, booklets, and digital downloads were available for sale.
Attendees were able to see how arts projects can be inspired by and grow beyond the walls of MIT, and turn into wonderful evenings of creativity and inspiration. To hear a preview of José’s work, visit https://proxemia.bandcamp.com/album/electric-streams-of-wind.
The project was supported in part by a grant from the Cambridge Arts Council.
